Responsibility points are in their second year, and can be a great way for students to add a high score to their test & quiz average at the end of each quarter. Here's a quick look at what kind of things are involved in earning responsibility points:
You need to come prepared to class every day. You must bring the following items with you each and every time you come to class:
- textbook
- notebook
- a supply of clean, lined notebook paper
- a pencil and/or a blue or black ink pen
- red pen or pencil for correcting papers
- workbooks (if your class has workbooks)
- completed homework assignment
It's also important that you come to class on time, and that you are in your assigned seat by the time the bell rings. That's part of being prepared to learn. Slipping in the door just as the bell is ringing is NOT the same as being on time.
And lastly: don't forget to take your notebook and textbook with you when you leave the classroom. If you leave them under your desk, you can't prepare for the next day.
SO, HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:
Each class period is worth one responsibility point. On any day that a student doesn't bring one of the the required items, or is late, or leaves stuff in the classroom - that student loses that one point. At the end of the nine weeks, Frau Penner adds up each student's responsibility points, and that total becomes a quiz grade. Here are two examples:
- Rea Sponcy is a pretty organized sophomore, and she almost always remembers to bring everything she needs to class with her every day. She forgot her notebook once, and she left her homework in her locker twice. There were 45 days in the quarter, so she ended up with 42 responsibility points out of a possible 45 points. That's great - she gets to add in a quiz grade of 93%!
- Ima Byrdbrayn is also a sophomore, but she has a horrible time getting herself organized. She leaves her notebook in her locker at least once a week, and is constantly having to borrow a pen or paper from a classmate. She was late a couple of times, too. As a result, she ended up with only 27 responsibility points by the end of the quarter. Bummer - that's a 60%.
