IEP (Individual Educational Program)

Once a student is verified, an IEP (Individual Educational Plan) meeting is held. As the parent, you will be invited to attend an IEP meeting.  Participants who MUST attend an IEP meeting are:

  • Parent(s)
  • At least one classroom teacher, as appropriate
  • Special educator(s)
  • Someone to interpret evaluation results (this can be the special educator(s) noted above)
  • Administrator

You will receive a Notice of IEP Meeting form, noting the people invited and whether or not you can attend at the time and date suggested.  If you can attend, you'll need to sign and return the Notice of IEP meeting form.  If you can not attend, you can choose other times/dates that are convenient for you. (The district must have the Notice of IEP form signed by the parent for their files)

Should you wish, you can request a copy of a DRAFT IEP before the meeting, so that you will have time to review it, and generate any questions you may have before the meeting.

Once you get to the IEP meeting, the special education staff will have a DRAFT copy of the IEP to give to you, unless you have requested a copy for review before the meeting.

At the meeting, the team will be going over and developing the IEP to meet the educational needs of your child. As a team member, you are an integral part of the development of the IEP. Staff will be asking you for input/concerns to improve your child's educational needs.

Rule 51 requires the district to update an IEP at least once a year, or more often if deemed necessary.

Parent(s) can request an IEP meeting at any time, should you feel there is a need to review your child's educational plan.

Progress Reports

You will be receiving a  progress report 4 times a year, or as often as your district completes report cards. The progress report notes how your child is progressing on his/her IEP.
