ESU 5 Distance Learning Science

The 2012-2013 school year has gotten off to a great start. As always, we traveled to the schools for the first science lesson of the year. That's always one of our favorite times of the year as we are actually in the students' classrooms and get to share time with them. While we were out at the schools, students worked through some great experiments with us; ranging from designing shutters for our giant Vortex Cannon, packaging brittle pasta to survive shipment, to making root beer with dry ice!

We are now back at ESU 5 here in Beatrice and have started delivering lessons through our distance learning system. The students have started working through experiments so far this year that get us "thinking like scientists." We challenge the students to form good questions, make predictions, and use their senses to make observations during these experiments. Some examples of experiments done already this year include: building cantilevers, finding and growing bacteria, and designing, building, and testing foil boats in an attempt to hold the most cargo before sinking.

We will attempt to update this listing throughout the year. We hope to include new experiments, student achievements, and extra-curricular events in this section. Please check our other articles to find out more about what we're doing this year in the ESU 5 Science Program.
