ESU 5 Co-Sponsors Nebraska World Language Week

ESU 5 partnered with the Nebraska Department of Education to Co-Sponsor this year’s Nebraska World Language Week.

The purpose of this event is to bring students together across the state in celebration of World Language Learning. Throughout the week, different languages are highlighted. Monday, 2/19 was Spanish Day. Over 600 students from roughly 25 School Districts across the State joined live during their normally scheduled classes.

Dr. Nick Ziegler MCd the event, leading students through a range of activities focused on promoting Task Value for Language Learning and the use of Effective Learning Strategies. Throughout the day he was joined by Featured Speakers including Kelly Garcia (ESU 5), Danielle Fulcher (LPS), and Dr. Cecilia Tocaimaza-Hatch (UNO).

This was the third iteration of the Live Event during Nebraska World Language Week. Participation increased 25% from the previous year, with roughly ⅔ originating from the ESU 5 World Language Program and ⅓ from outside participants.

I am so grateful that the ESU had so many specialists to work with my son, because now I know what to do to help my child with autism. The speech pathologist and occupational therapist from the ESU have allowed him to gain more than I ever expected him to. I don’t know what I would have done without them.
