Alternative Education & Credit Recovery

Alternative Education

The Southeast Nebraska Alternative Program (SNAP) combines resources and supports through an inter-local agreement between the participating school district and ESU 5.

A student may qualify for participation in SNAP if he/she meets the following criteria:

  • Must be 16 years of age

  • Lost credit due to attendance issues

  • Failed two or more core subjects

  • Experiencing serious personal, emotional or medical issues, and/or

  • Persistently inappropriate in the regular school environment.

SNAP utilizes a combination of interventions and strategies to ensure every student has an opportunity to reach their full potential.  The academic day provides a varied setting between a more relaxed environment while still focusing on academics.

The placement team at the school district will determine if the program is the best interest of the student.  Contact your school district for additional information regarding qualification for participation.

ESU 5 offers Odysseyware, a credit recovery curriculum program, to its member school districts. Odysseyware is online course content that can be delivered in a variety of settings, such as online, blended learning for an alternative program and/or summer school.

I am so grateful that the ESU had so many specialists to work with my son, because now I know what to do to help my child with autism. The speech pathologist and occupational therapist from the ESU have allowed him to gain more than I ever expected him to. I don’t know what I would have done without them.
The best part of working at ESU 5 is the people I work with!
