ESU 5 welcomes new Principals in 2023-2024

ESU 5 has welcomed a significant number of new principals to our region this year.

There are 9 new people in these roles. A principal mentor was put in place due to the majority of these people being new to an administrative role.  Kurk Wiedel, long standing principal who recently retired from Thayer Central, is serving as a mentor to the group.  The mission of the ESU 5 Principal Mentoring Program is to promote student achievement by providing support for the building leader as well as the emotional growth and development of these educational leaders in all areas.

New leaders

Areas of support to our new administrators include:

  1. Culture
  2. Instruction
  3. Human Resources
  4. Professional Growth
  5. Systems

Some of the methods to provide mentoring have included meeting individually with each new principal in their building, meeting in small groups, Zoom calls and collaborative Principal Network with tenured administrators. The new principals have found the mentoring program to be very useful in their growth as an administrator.

I am so grateful that the ESU had so many specialists to work with my son, because now I know what to do to help my child with autism. The speech pathologist and occupational therapist from the ESU have allowed him to gain more than I ever expected him to. I don’t know what I would have done without them.
