ESU 5's Mental Health Program Continues to Grow to Support Mental Health Awareness

The ESU5 mental health team has expanded to four new school districts this year.

These schools include Fairbury Public Schools, Milford Public Schools, Seward Public School, and Centennial Public Schools. With the expansion, we are excited to welcome two new mental health clinicians to our team: Sean Roberts and Sarah Schroeder. We are very excited for the opportunity to expand into new districts and grow our team!

The ESU5 mental health team is excited to be partnering with the “Peter R. Marsh Foundation.”

This foundation honors students who selflessly and silently serve others in their school and community. Students nominated are known for their leadership and for their inspiration to others to become good stewards. Students are nominated by their peers, teachers, and/or community members for a $500 scholarship based on this criteria. Within the ESU5 districts, we have had three students who have received this award:  Cole Siems, Tri County (2021), Carter Ruse, Freeman (2022), and Taylor Carnell, Freeman (2022)!

Creators of On Our Sleeves
The ESU5 mental health team is honored to partner with “On Our Sleeves.”

"On Our Sleeves" is a non-profit organization created by Ohio State football coach, Ryan Day and wife, Christina. This organization focuses on mental wellness and suicide prevention for children and adolescents. Our team received 2,000 wellness packets from this organization, which will be given to each student in the districts that we serve. We're excited to watch our students grow in their wellness with these resources.

ESU 5's Mental Health Team presents to High School Students.

On Friday, August 26th, the ESU-5 mental health team was asked to present to high school students at Peru State College. These presentations were focused on different avenues of wellness with the goal that students would learn new skills to enhance their wellbeing. Jamie Mapp led the Keynote presentation, followed by breakout sessions led by the mental health team. These breakouts were focused on healthy social media usage, calming strategies, and leadership skills. As a team, we enjoyed the opportunity to teach students from several districts on wellness and self-care.

I am so grateful that the ESU had so many specialists to work with my son, because now I know what to do to help my child with autism. The speech pathologist and occupational therapist from the ESU have allowed him to gain more than I ever expected him to. I don’t know what I would have done without them.
