Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) for School Teams - Ensuring Implementation of BIP

Nov 19 2024
Educational Service Unit NO. 5
9:00am — 3:00pm

Day 2 will be a continuation for anyone who has attended BIP for IEP Managers in 2021 or 2022 OR FBA/BIPS for School Teams in October 2023.

Now that an FBA has been completed, it’s time to write and implement the Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP)! A BIP is a written improvement plan created for a student based on the outcome of a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA). The BIP should specify the actions to take to improve or replace the behavior identified in the FBA. The focus of this session will be on the essential components of the BIP and how to use the information from the FBA to inform the process. We will learn about teaching replacement skills and how to monitor your BIP through activities and exercises that are evidence based and applicable to the school setting. We will also explore how interventions can be tied back to school wide systems.

Participants should bring a previously completed FBA/BIP to the workshop. If you do not have one, we can provide a sample for you

I am so grateful that the ESU had so many specialists to work with my son, because now I know what to do to help my child with autism. The speech pathologist and occupational therapist from the ESU have allowed him to gain more than I ever expected him to. I don’t know what I would have done without them.
