Unlocking the Science of Reading

Feb 27 2026
Educational Service Unit NO. 5
9:00am — 3:00pm

Through interactive large- and small-group experiences and individual reflection, participants will consider how to apply the science or reading research to enhance the classroom learning environment and engage young children in meaningful experiences that will nurture their language learning and literacy development. This 6-hour session is appropriate for programs using any developmentally appropriate preschool or pre-K curriculum and will outline the alignment of the science of reading to the GOLD® objectives for development and learning. By the end of this session, participants will be able to articulate how their programs will build upon their current language and literacy practices to support best practices related to the science of reading. It has been determined that this will complement the previous training many teachers in the area have received through LETRS, as this session focuses on application and alignment to GOLD.

I am so grateful that the ESU had so many specialists to work with my son, because now I know what to do to help my child with autism. The speech pathologist and occupational therapist from the ESU have allowed him to gain more than I ever expected him to. I don’t know what I would have done without them.
